DETAILS ABOUT OUR PROGRAM AND WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
The Riptide Fall Soccer is our main recreational soccer program. Signups start in early June and continue into July. Practices will start around the first or second week of August and games will begin on Saturday, Sept. 7th. The season will be ten weeks long. All recreational coaches are volunteers that will be provided a coaches clinic run by our Technical Director, Michael Ndoumbe. All games will be played at Liberty Station Park.
For the 2013 season, we plan to continue to build on our successes by elevating our coaching education under the guidance of Riptide SC’s new Technical Director, Michael Ndoumbe. In addition to being an accomplished international player, Michael has been working with the USSF as a coaching instructor for the last eight years. His insight and experience will be invaluable in helping to elevate effectiveness of our volunteer coaches and the experience for our players.
The PLSA was founded on the Dutch Vision of youth soccer development. Fundamental to the Dutch Vision is that children learn the game best by playing the game and that individual skill development should be the focus for young players. The development of their playing ability and individual skills is directly related to the amount of time they get to interact with the ball, particularly in match like situations. Small sided games, used both in training and on game day, reduce the number of players on the field at one time, which increase the opportunities for each player to interact with the ball in match like conditions. In addition, small sided games are less complex, which allows the coach to focus his efforts more on individual skill development and basic tactical principles that children can comprehend (please click this link for a detailed power point presentation by the US Youth Soccer Association discussing the benefits of small sided games for youth soccer development and enjoyment). In short, children learn to play better soccer faster in the small sided game environment, and better soccer means more fun for everyone.
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has embraced the small sided game philosophy for many years now and provides guidance with game formats in their document Best Practices for Coaching Soccer in the United States. We will be following these game formats. In each case below, numbers may be modified based on total players in each division and the desire to optimize playing time for all players.

The PLSA believes that good coaching is key to a successful experience for our players. We will be supporting our volunteer coaches with equipment (coaching kit), training session plans as well as training in small sided game philosophy & training techniques. In addition, Michael Ndoumbe, Riptide SC Technical Director, will be providing instruction and guidance. Please consider coaching a team.
